Privacy

Metyo has no accounts and doesn't ask who you are. It keeps the places you save so it can forecast them, crash reports so we can fix problems, and, only if you turn it on, which screens you use. We don't sell your data or use it to track you.
Who we are
Metyo is a small, independent app. To ask about your data, see what we hold, or have it deleted, email privacy@metyo.app. A person reads every message.
What we collect, and why
- An anonymous ID. The app makes one when you first open it, so it can keep your places together. It isn't tied to your name, email or phone number.
- Your places. Each place's name, type (home, work and so on) and position, and a street address if you type one. We use them to forecast those places and send their alerts.
- Your location, only when you ask. If you add a place using where you are, the app reads your location once and saves it as that place. It doesn't follow you or read your location in the background.
- Alert settings. Which alerts you want, so we send the right ones.
- Feedback you send. Your message and its topic, the app and system version, and, for forecast or alert feedback, which of your places it's about.
- Crash reports. When the app crashes, a report of what went wrong, with your anonymous ID, so we can fix it.
- Usage, only if you turn it on. With “Help improve the app” on in Settings, which screens you open and a few actions, such as adding a place. It's off until you turn it on, and isn't linked to your anonymous ID or your places.
What we don't do
- We don't sell your data or share it with data brokers.
- We don't use your data to track you across other apps or websites.
- We don't use your phone's advertising ID.
- We don't read your contacts, photos or anything else on your phone.
Who else handles it
- Google Firebase runs the anonymous sign-in, crash reports and usage stats for us. Its privacy information applies.
- Our servers store your places, alert settings and feedback. They may be outside your country.
- OpenFreeMap serves the map pictures. Like any website, it sees your phone's internet address and which area of the map you're looking at.
- Weather comes from national weather services, such as Environment and Climate Change Canada. Our servers fetch it; nothing about you is sent to them.
How long we keep it
Places and alert settings stay until you delete them. Feedback stays while it's useful for fixing and planning the app. Crash reports and usage stats are kept by Firebase for a limited time and then deleted.
Your choices
- Delete any place in the app, under Places.
- Turn usage stats on or off in Settings, at any time.
- Turn location off for Metyo in your phone's settings, and search for towns instead.
- To have everything deleted, email privacy@metyo.app. Tell us the places you saved, so we can find them. We'll reply within 30 days.
Children
Metyo isn't made for children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their data.
Changes
If what we collect changes, we'll update this page and its date before the app changes. Big changes will also be mentioned in the app.
